It was named after Harrods Creek, which is directly to the east of the neighborhood, and was incorporated in 2003, when Jefferson County and Louisville merged in 2003. In the early days, the land was planned for a town by the Transylvania Company. Lots for homes were sold, but the town was never developed and became known as Seminary Land for a while, until River Road (previously the Louisville-Westport Pike) was built through it.
