Barbourmeade sits just off of Brownsboro Road and Barbour Lane, which is where the city’s name comes from. Barbour Lane, however, was named after Thomas and Richard Barbour, and was actually once the entry drive to the Barbour House, situated on their 500-acre tract of land. The city was officially incorporated in October of 1963, boasting a population of only 150 then as compared to the 1,216 citizens that the city has today.

Ballard High School is just west of Barbourmeade, and the Standard Club country club abuts the southern boundary of the city.
