Before it was officially incorporated in 1849 as the city of Anchorage, named after the riverboat captain James W. Goslee’s estate, it was known as Hobbs’ Station after Edward Dorsey Hobbs, who helped to establish the Louisville and Frankfort Railroad that ran through Anchorage in 1849.

Today’s Anchorage still features Olmsted-designed stone bridges, historic architecture, natural trails, and an active Historic District. While it was once a rural village of summer cottages and country homes, it is now a thriving independent city home to 2,421 residents, plenty of small businesses, about 850 homes, one highly regarded K–8 public school, and several churches. As a nod to their history with the river and railroad, Anchorage features an anchor monument in the city. It was moved in 2019 to a space close to the three-way stop of Park Road, Station Road and Evergreen Road, near City Hall.
