John O’Callaghan Featured in STROLL Indian Hills as Resident Business
If you’ve lived in Indian Hills for a while, chances are you’ve met John and Heather O’Callaghan; maybe at a neighborhood gathering, cheering on the sidelines at Sacred Heart, or walking their Weimaraner, Ella. The O’Callaghans have called Indian Hills home for 16 years, and their love for Louisville runs deep.
“I was born and raised here in the Highlands, the last of seven kids and the only boy,” John laughs. “After college, I thought I’d go be a ski bum, but I got a job, met Heather, and never left. Louisville has such a strong sense of community. We’re lucky to have great friends, family, and something fun always happening.”
John and Heather have been married for 30 years and raised three children: Frank (25), Cooper (23), and Hattie (16). Both Frank and Cooper are Ole Miss grads; Frank now works in Charlotte, and Cooper recently started his first year at Auburn’s Veterinary School. Hattie, a junior at Sacred Heart Academy, keeps the household lively and full of energy.
Heather, meanwhile, is a familiar face in Louisville’s wine and spirits industry, where she has built a remarkable career with RNDC (Republic National Distributing Company). For nearly three decades, she’s been a respected professional in liquor and wine distribution, known for her warmth, quick wit, and ability to turn clients into lifelong friends. Whether she’s managing accounts or hosting a bourbon tasting, Heather’s blend of professionalism and personality has made her one of the city’s best-known women in the industry.
Building a Business with Purpose
John’s professional story mirrors his personal one; rooted in Louisville, built on relationships, and driven by purpose. A St. X graduate and Xavier University alumnus, he spent years in sales before joining Premier Home Care in 2008, where he helped open retail medical equipment stores. In 2015, he saw a need in the community and took a leap, purchasing and renaming the company’s caregiving division to create Premier Caregiver Services, headquartered right here in St. Matthews. For over a decade, Premier Caregiver Services has become one of Louisville’s most respected names in dementia and Alzheimer’s care. The locally owned agency provides one-on-one in-home care for seniors, helping families navigate complex healthcare systems and maintain independence with dignity. “We’re not a franchise, and that gives us flexibility,” John explains.
“We’ve completely changed the way we train, pay, and develop caregivers, investing in their growth so families get something rare in this industry: consistency. Our goal has always been to elevate what is often an under-appreciated profession.”
From the top down, every employee completes annual training in the latest best practices in dementia care. All caregivers are coached through a thorough mentoring program that helps them master their craft. Among the administrative staff, John is proud to tell his clients that there are two Certified Dementia Practitioners on the Premier Caregiver Services team, with more staff members soon to join their ranks. Not all clients need dementia care expertise, but it’s becoming more in demand. John O’Callaghan and his team have fully embraced the company’s mission of becoming experts in Alzheimer’s and Dementia care.
The Heart of Home Care
That mission is more important than ever. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 6.9 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, a number that often comes into focus during the holidays, when families reunite and notice changes in aging loved ones. Nearly one in three seniors begins needing some level of care within six months of those early warning signs. Premier Caregiver Services employs over 100 highly trained caregivers, each specializing in dementia care. Their approach is deeply personal and local, the kind of high-touch service families in Indian Hills value. One client shared, “The caregiving exceeded my expectations. My mom’s caregiver has truly become part of our family.” Another noted,
“They helped us understand dementia care and even navigate our long-term care insurance. Premier is such a great, locally owned resource.”
A Family Grounded in Gratitude
Running what John affectionately calls a “family business” takes patience, sacrifice, and understanding from everyone, including Heather, who brings a steady sense of humor and perspective to the mix. “I’m lucky to have both a work family and a home family that believe in what we’re building,” he says.
“Heather has been there through every phase, the startup years, the late nights, and the celebrations. I couldn’t do it without her.”
Now in its 11th year, Premier Caregiver Services continues to grow while staying rooted in the same values that built it: compassion, community, and care. “We want to expand, but never lose what makes us different, our relationships, our purpose, and our local roots,” John says.
From River Bluff to Hubbards Lane, from family dinners to caregiver trainings, the O’Callaghans’ story is one of care, for their family, their neighbors, and the city they love.

The team at Premier was terrific. After speaking to a few others about assisting family members, Jen and Kelly from Premier met with us and made it so comfortable. Learning about Premier’s Alzheimer’s and Dementia program, it was obvious they are committed to having professionals educated and trained in dementia care. They also gave me helpful guides and helped us map out a plan, including how to utilize our long-term care insurance policy. Premier is a great locally owned resource! Thank you Premier!
